Sharing a few lines written on our first wedding anniversary, years ago. Dedicated to all those who are forced to stay far apart from their loved ones, due to reasons beyond their control.
This day a year ago,
we had stood side by side,
her hand in mine.
As the priest made us one
in the presence of God,
I gently pressed her hand
that still rested in mine.
That gentle squeeze triggered
a flood of memories..
Railway stations, bus stands,
train rides, bus rides,
auto rides, beaches,
walks to college,
school benches;
all whizzed past in a haze.
And from the haze,
a starry kite came into focus.
The same starry kite
that had walked with us
on many a moonlit night.
The same starry kite
that we had promised
to look out for
when we were not together.
Today, it has been a year since
we had stood side by side,
her hand in mine.
But today,
we are a thousand miles apart
on two separate continents!
I waited patiently
for the darkness to cover the night;
And then I wandered out
looking for our starry kite.
And sure enough, there it was
just as we had seen it
on many a moonlit night,
promising, assuring, comforting.
As I look up at our starry kite
I know that she is too,
on a terrace top miles away,
looking up, her face lit bright.
This is our anniversary ritual;
This is our candlelight dinner.
We may be a thousand miles apart;
We may be on two separate continents.
But if we are watching
the same starry kite,
our very own candlelight,
are we not just across the table
on this bright beautiful night?

lovely as always..
Beautiful poem. Remind me of your story on Antheppettan, he said" I don't know" when you asked him how he became a leatherman. I have to ask you the same Question, how you became an IT engineer, you could have been a famous author and a poet .
Beautiful ,I am trying to relate to the timing of this story. I believe it has to be the late 90's.
indeed, 1997-2005
Beautiful
WoW!
Lovely words stiched to capture the sentiments - romantic? I dont know. But definitely a reflection of the simple thoughts that I have known you always have. Kewp them coming. Always is a pleasure to read and absorb.

Wishing you both many more starry kites and nights in the years to come.

Mr. William Wordsworth... you did see a beauty in the sky, you did embrace some beautiful thoughts in the tranquillity of those dark nights... you found beautiful memories whizzing thru those haze too… but it’s evident that you missed a beauty around whom you could put your arms and plant a passionate kiss, keeping the moon as a mute witness… Sahi? (Any owners for these lines…?) Happy Anniversary...!
